What is MyTheraPlayBox?

MyTheraPlayBox is an occupational therapist designed resource service for families supporting children with autism, ADHD, and sensory processing differences. It combines a monthly therapy subscription box and downloadable digital guides to deliver practical, clinician developed tools that help parents support their child's development at home, between therapy sessions and throughout everyday life.

The story behind it

After more than ten years as a paediatric occupational therapist, I noticed something consistent in my clinic. The toys and resources we used in sessions worked, not just adequately, but genuinely well. Children were engaged, challenged at exactly the right level, and making meaningful progress.

Parents would finish a session and ask, every single time: where did you get that? Can I buy one? The honest answer was: not easily. The toys and resources that actually support fine motor development and sensory regulation are not sitting on the shelves at your local toy shop. They exist, but only online or in specialist stores that most parents have never heard of, scattered across different suppliers and brands, with no clear guidance on what works for what. Even when you find them, you need clinical knowledge to know whether a specific toy is right for your child's particular needs. For a parent already juggling appointments and routines, that sourcing process is exhausting and often fruitless.

That frustration led to SensoryKidsPlay, our OT curated online toy shop where families can browse and buy therapist recommended resources. It was the first piece of the puzzle. But even with the right toys, most parents still did not know how to use them intentionally to support their child's specific goals. That gap led to MyTheraPlayBox, a monthly box of therapist selected tools chosen because each one creates the just right challenge that drives genuine skill development, paired with a guided activity plan that shows parents exactly how to use each item at home. The same principle that guides every session at our paediatric OT clinic, EquipKids.

The digital guides came next, to close the gap between what parents want to understand and what a clinic appointment can cover. The clinical knowledge I would share in a consultation, written for parents who want to respond with confidence at home.

Who is it for?

MyTheraPlayBox is designed for families supporting children aged 4 to 8 with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, or developmental delays. It is also used by families on long waitlists, those in regional areas with limited access to paediatric OT services, and parents who simply want more than what a once-a-fortnight session can provide.

You do not need a diagnosis to benefit. You just need a child who is finding some parts of life harder than they should be, and a parent who wants to help.

MyTheraPlayBox does not replace occupational therapy. It is designed to complement it, extending the work of your child's OT into your home and daily routine. If your child needs a formal OT assessment or therapy program, the team at EquipKids would be glad to help.

About The Founder

Sabina Stancescu is a Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over ten years of clinical experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and developmental delays. She holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Auckland University of Technology and is the founder of EquipKids, paediatric OT clinic based in Melbourne, MyTheraPlayBox, and SensoryKidsPlay.

Her clinical focus is on the foundational skills that underpin everyday life such as fine motor development, sensory regulation, emotional regulation, self-care independence, and school readiness. She works closely with families because she knows that the progress children make in a clinic room only sticks when parents feel confident and equipped at home.

As a mother of two, Sabina understands firsthand the weight of wanting to do everything possible for your child and the frustration of not always knowing what that looks like in practice. That lived experience, sitting alongside more than a decade of clinical work with families, is what MyTheraPlayBox grew from.
